Rosewood Rails...

A Century and more ago, natural rosewood was often used for the rails of pool tables because of its extreme hardness, durability and exceptional beauty. Unfortunately, like many fine things from the past, its use was discontinued because of the increasing scarcity and cost of genuine rosewood.

Rosewood grows along the damp riversides of tropical forests. It is extremely dense and heavy, rich with natural oils and burn resistant. Because of its high oil content, it stands up to constant handling and actually develops more sheen and depth with increased handling and use. That is why rosewood has long been prized for use in violins, pianos, knife handles, jewelry boxes and other fine wooden pieces.

American Custom Pool Tables offers this exquisite and rare wood imported from Belize for the top rails of any of our 100% solid hardwood pool tables. It is available in the same styles as our standard rails, straight or scalloped, inlayed with mother of pearl diamonds, or in an antique style 3-iron rail as on the Union Star table pictured at the right.

Color is a mixture of deep purple, chocolate red and light brown with ebony streaking. The high oil content enables it to be polished to a high sheen.

We leave the rosewood in its natural state, sanded to a silky smooth texture, then waxed to bring out the beautiful color and grain patterns. You’ll love the rich look and easy care. Nicks and scratches can be buffed or sanded away. Apply a fresh coat of paste wax and voila, like new again!
